Hidden Snapchat Features

Snapchat... I know. First thought that pops into most peoples head... dick pics. You're probably not wrong. There is probably a whole lot of penis floating around in the Snapchat world. Personally, Ill snap a photo of something random, draw a whole bunch of crap on the photo and send it off to a bunch of people in my list. It may be a picture of my dog, some random sign I found hilarious (that no one else will find funny at all) or something along those lines. Ok, its a lot of dog pictures and videos... leave me alone.

Point being, people use its very basic features and don't even know about a lot of the things built in. These little tidbits will help your crappy Snapchats... look a little less crappy... they're probably still crappy...

Download The Photo/Video You Just Made

This one isn't really a hidden feature, its more so something that people just don't realize exists. You can download the plain photo or video that you just took or you can download it once you drew all over it. You can do this just before you send it, during the preview.

  1. Click on the icon on the bottom of your screen that looks like an downward pointing arrow right above a horizontal line

Use Filters

Yes, there are filters. Not a whole bunch, but a few that you can flip through.

  1. Settings
  2. Manage
  3. Smart Filters/Visual Filters
  4. Once you have snapped your photo or taken your video swipe to the left or right

Replay

You can now replay a Snapchat for a second time! WTF!

Front-Facing Flash

If you want to brighten that selfie up, turn this on. It will force the screen to do a quick white flash that should give enough light to brighten up the photo.

  4. Once you flip the camera around, you should still have access to the flash icon in the top left corner.



Special Text

Instead of having that black semi-transparent bar across your screen with white text on top, you can change it up a bit.

View Best Friends And Edit Display Names

You can view who other people have been Snapchatting with the most or what Snapchat calls "Best Friends". Also, you can change the way people show up in your friends list. If for some reason they came in as a username and not their full name, there is a way to change it. You could also name randoms with some kind of warning message, giving future you a heads up.

View Best Friends

  1. Go to your friends list
  2. Tap once on a friends name
  3. It will show their top "friends"

Edit Display Names

  1. Go to your friends list
  2. Tap once on a friends name
  3. Tap on the gear icon
  4. Edit display name

Black And White Ink

On top of the colours you see in the palette, you can access a white and black ink as well.

  1. Press on the colour palette
  2. Drag to the left side of the screen for white
  3. Drag to the bottom left corner of the screen for black

  2. What if I want to change the display names of my followers without adding them as friends in Snapchat?

    • As far as I know, I don’t think you can do that. I believe you have to add them as a friend before getting control over that.

    Is it possible that your own name would appear on Friends List? If this is not a capability of Snapchat, does this mean that the person changed the username as to hide the real person?
